18. Hope

A different kind of hope is required in these dark days

When all hope is lost, as far as everyone can see

Rebellious hope finds light in stark and sheer darkness

Hope that endures, holds on, and clings, though there are no bright rays

Against all odds, it still believes that the vision will be

And to the general populace, it appears to be sheer madness.

This is the kind of hope that gives a spring to your step as you walk

When the world expects you to drag your feet along wearily

If you have been confined to the lower echelons of life

And labelled a failure who no longer has a reason to talk

It makes you get up at night and burn the midnight oil determinedly

Till the world beats a path to your door seeking the wisdom with which you are now rife.

Hope can be likened to fuel that enables vehicles to keep going

It entails a sense of confident expectation of a desirable and beautiful destination

Hope propels us forward, though we may be going uphill on rough terrain

It enlivens us, bringing smiles to our faces, even when we are barely enduring

Hope is indispensable to the marginalized and those who suffer prolonged deprivation

A glimmer of hope to the needy feels like desert dwellers experiencing long-awaited rain.

So when you think all hope is lost

And you know you can no longer bear the cost

Turn to your creator with all you can

And the obstacles arising in your path he will ban

Or reveal another path around, through, over or under

Leading to success that makes the world around one wonder.
